John Armstrong

Trained at St John’s Wood School of Art, John Armstrong is difficult to categorise. His work includes theatre and film costume and set design and murals and he was a founder member in 1933 with Paul Nash of Unit One. He was an official War Artist and returned to painting after the war, being elected an Associate Member of the Royal Academy in 1966. His work is held in collections by Tate London, the V&A, The Imperial War Museum, London, Manchester City Art Galleries and the National Gallery of Wales.  www.tate.org.uk
